Ms. Miriam James was born on August 28, 1922 in Toco, Trinidad, West Indies to Ms. Alexandrine James. She grew up in her homeland and attended school there. As a young woman, Miriam worked at the Port of Spain General Hospital which became a place of great provision and loyal friendships. During Miriam’s early 20’s, she began to have a family with Festus Smith. Together, they parented four children. She later had two children with Eric Charles. Miriam cared for her children and emphasized the importance of a good work ethic, discipline, education, and family. She also loved to cook. In 1988, Miriam James emigrated to the United States to spend time with her children and growing family. She eventually settled in Somerdale, New Jersey and resided with her daughter, Donna George-Perry, and her grandchildren. She lived to experience the bountiful blessings of a long life and fulfilled the charge of Genesis 1:28. Miriam was preceded in death by her daughter Maudry Smith and granddaughter, Roma. She leaves to cherish her memory four sons: Hulbert Smith of Kissimmee, Florida (former wife, Janet), Carlton Ottley of Tobyhanna, Pennsylvania (Merlyn), Thornhill Smith of Trinidad, West Indies (Patsy) and Desmond George of Trinidad, West Indies; One daughter, Donna George-Perry of Somerdale, New Jersey; Twenty-two grandchildren: Wendell, Kimberly, Shelly, LeVon, Carla, Carlon, Matthew, Dave, Hazel, Rebecca, Titus, Leah, Joshua, Abigail, Seth, Tamar, Kevlon, Desann, Aneesha, Ashley, Kimberly and Shanice; Thirty-two great-grandchildren and three great–great-grandchildren.
