On July 3, 2008, of Barrington, NJ age 86yrs. Beloved husband of the late Sophie B. (Nee. Smarzynski). Devoted father of Sandra E. Bowen (William) and Janice A. Elliott. Dear brother of Leslie Elliott (Alma). Also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. Mr. Elliott was a life long resident of Barrington. He attended Haddon Heights High School Class of 1940. Mr. Elliott was a veteran of the U.S. Army and bravely served his country during the Pacific Theater of World War II in Saipan. Prior to retirement, Mr. Elliott was employed by the Borough of Barrington, where he led the Police Department as Chief for over 30 years. Among his many activities Chief Elliott was a member and Past President of the South Jersey Chiefs of Police Association, member and Past Vice-President of the PBA Local 30, a member of the International Chiefs of Police Association, NJ State Chiefs of Police Association, and the South Eastern PA Police Chiefs Association. Mr. Elliott was also a member and twice Past Commander of the Barrington VFW Post 7247, a member of the Barrington Civic League and the former Barrington Lions Club, a former Trustee of the Barrington Ambulance Assoc., a member of the Barrington Juvenile Conference Committee, a former Deacon of the Barrington First Presbyterian Church, a PTA member of both Avon and Woodland Schools, served as Chairman of the Barrington Chapter of the American Red Cross Blood Program,Co-Chairman of the March of Dimes Drive and was a Mason with the Collingswood-Cloud Masonic Lodge. Relatives, friends and fellow members of Law Enforcement are invited to attend his viewing on Sunday evening from 7 to 9PM and again on Monday morning from 10am at the POPIOLEK FUNERAL HOME, 400 Clements Bridge Rd, Barrington, NJ, where a Funeral Service will be held at 11am. Interment with Military Honors , Lakeview Memorial Park, Cinnaminson, NJ. If desired the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Barrington First Presbyterian Church, 401 W.
