December 18, 1922 — February 20, 2014

Surrounded by his loving family at home, on February 20, 2014 of Barrington, NJ, age 91yrs. Beloved husband of 67yrs to Sue (nee Spore). Devoted father of James A., Richard A. (Marian), Susan J. Watson (Michael), Terry L. Self (James), and Janice E. Rebbeck (J.R.). Loving grandfather of Jeff, Julie, Lisa, Matt, Mary, Michael, Charlie, and Ellie. Great grandfather of 8. Dear brother-in-law of Betty Oropallo. Also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, friends and colleagues. Dr. Oropallo was a graduate of Syracuse University, Syracuse College of Medicine (Magna Cum Laude), and the University of Pennsylvania. He proudly served as a Captain in the U.S. Army and the NJ National Guard serving as Colonel and State Surgeon. Doc enjoyed a successful career as an Ophthalmologist working in private practice, as well as for the Veterans Administration and The PA Office of Vocational Rehabilitation both in Philadelphia where he retired at the age of 84yrs. He was on the Staff of both Wills Eye and Methodist Hospitals, Philadelphia. Doc resided in Barrington since 1950 where he was an active member of the Barrington Fire Company (Life Member), Barrington Historical Society, The Young at Heart Club, the Barrington Seniors, as well as the former Barrington Lions Club. He was previously active with both Barrington Little League and Girls Softball, the Barrington Environmental Committee and was named Barrington Citizen of the Year in 1973. Doc was an avid Phillies fan and followed the Brooklawn American Legion Baseball teams, but most of all he loved his family and friends. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewing on Monday evening from 6 to 9PM and again on Tuesday morning from 8:15 to 9:15am at the POPIOLEK FUNERAL HOME, 400 Clements Bridge Rd, Barrington, NJ. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday 10am at St. Joachim Parish, Annunciation B.V.M Church, Browning Rd, Bellmawr, NJ. Interment New St. Mary’s Cemetery, Bellmawr. If desired, the family requests memorial donations to either the Daughters of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart, 424 E. Browning Rd, Bellmawr, NJ 08031 or to Brooklawn American Legion Baseball, 503 Rt. 130, Brooklawn, NJ 08030.
