George J. Preen, Jr.

George, of Barrington, NJ age 69, passed away peacefully at his daughter’s home on March 17, 2020. George was the proud father of Jennifer Preen (James), Kathryn Busch (Jeffrey), and George J. Preen, III (Rachel), Pop-Pop to Shannon, Trevor, Ryan, Kylie, Scarlett, Julia, Jessica, and Elizabeth and great Pop-Pop to baby Jameson. He was predeceased by his mother Helene C. Preen, Father George J. Preen Sr. and brother Thomas Preen. George worked in construction and at a sporting goods store before joining the Barrington Police Department in 1980 as a patrolman. Over the years, he moved up the ranks and spent the last years of his career as the Chief of the police department. He was a life member of the Barrington Fire Company and Ambulance Squad. He was also a member of the Elks Lodge and American Legion. He was committed to serving the community that he grew up and raised his children in. George was an avid hunter, fisherman, and loved to camp and spend time outdoors with family and friends. He spent his retirement traveling the country, spending a majority of his time in the Florida Keys during the winter and returning “home” for the rest of the year. He could be found at the ball field or one of his kids home visiting and spending time with family. A notice of visitation and services will be posted once services are finalized.
