Miriam (nèe Angela) Maloney, Daughter of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart, passed away
peacefully at St. Francis de Sales Convent on January 22, 2025 surrounded by her
community and nephew Denis Maloney.
Born in County Leitrim, Ireland, she was the youngest child of the late Hugh Maloney
and Catherine Daly and sister to the late Nuala, Ignatius, and Sister Berchmans (nèe
Ann). She is survived by her sister, Sister Carmel Joseph (nèe Carmel) and several
nephews and nieces and grandnephews and nieces.
She entered the convent at Glandore, Co. Cork, Ireland and made her first profession
on August 25 th , 1956. Thereafter she went to London to do teacher training and taught
in London for a year before coming to the United States in 1967 where she taught
second grade and was very active in the Friendship and Thought Committee at St.
Francis de Sales School until its closure in 2008.
Retirement was spent at St. Francis de Sales Convent where she continued to assist
with Religious Education in the parish for many years.
Sister Miriam had a special charism for hospitality and friendliness and was well loved
not only by her family, but by her Sisters, former students and parishioners alike. She
will be sorely missed.
Relatives and friends are invited to her Mass of Christian Burial which will be celebrated on Tuesday January
28th at 11am (please arrive by 10:45am) in St. Rose of Lima Church, 300 E. Kings Hwy, Haddon Heights, NJ. The Mass will also be live streamed through www.strosenj.com. Interment will follow at New St. Mary's Cemetery, Bellmawr, NJ.
